Laurie Danial, "Between a Rock and Hunk," Froelick Gallery

These are a few of our favorite Monday morning links, accent on the local.

I spent Saturday afternoon dodging raindrops and ducking into galleries for my weekly post at Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Arts & Life page.

This Lonesome Pizza effort at publicizing/publishing art is a great idea, and the pizza’s good, too (we tried some!)… (Kelly House, OregonLive)

The Portland Youth Philharmonic’s new season began in promising fashion. (James McQuillen, OregonLive)

The Northwest Filmmkaers’ Festival opened this weekend, so much it’s impossible for one human to process it all, though Anne Adams did a fine job of previewing the festivities. (Culturephile)

Tonight’s art-oriented lectures have a globalist bent, including one by Alfredo Jaar, an “interventionist artist,” and another with climate change guru Paul Gilding at PNCA, both of which we learned about from one of our primary arts preview sites portland or us now.

I feel guilty that I haven’t let you know that dance critic superstar Deborah Jowitt, discarded by the dunces at the Village Voice, has landed at ArtsJournal, our favorite online arts aggregation site.

Brian Libby’s take on PICA’s move across Burnside is smart as always.

Jeff Jahn at PORT took on the YU announcements (hiring a curator, announcing a capital campaign, etc.) and predicted that if the group didn’t have some major additions to its board of directions the fledgling contemporary art center would be “done.”
