America’s finest newspaper music critic, Mark Swed, finally calls out California’s many music festivals on their too-frequent refusal to program music from, well, Californians, or other West Coast composers.
“Our festivals,” Swed writes, “are becoming increasingly Euro-centric and homogenous. The local piece, and sometimes even the American one, is the exception.”
Alas, we could say the same about too many of Oregon’s non-pop music festivals. And we shall.
