Portland Dance Weekend: Festival City

Conduit's Dance+ and the Risk/Reward festivals plus a Ten Tiny Dances appearance

You will need a weekend to recover from your weekend and someone to schedule your itinerary if you plan to see everything that’s being offered. I wish I could lay out statistics on how many pieces and how many performers were performing this weekend, but I really can’t, I’ll just say it’s a lot. So get a babysitter and get going.

Dance + looks pretty good. I got a sneak peak the other night and Barry Johnson did too, and he wrote about it. The Reed theater is beautiful and the dances are fresh. Actually, almost all of the work being performed this weekend is new work. Wouldn’t you like to say you were there when so and so artist did that amazing thing? Yes, is the answer. See you there.

(Un)Made Solo Relay Leg #5: Jen Hackworth & Tahni Holt
July 10-11
Performance Works NW, 4625 SE 67th Ave.
(Un)Made, a solo relay performance series, conceived and originally performed by Linda Austin, has tracked six performers (After Austin) as they perfectly and imperfectly learn from each other and perform what they think they saw. This weekend is the last of the solo performances—Jen Hackwork and Tahni Holt will dance. Up next in August will be the “Dream Team” of Claire Barrera, Danielle Ross, Noelle Stiles and Takahiro Yamamoto, who will be performing a reprise of this weekend. If you think you have a water tight memory, remembering what you saw from performance to performance and comparing that against what the performers saw is a fun brain twister.

Eowyn Emerald & Dancers are part of this weekend's Risk/Reward Festival.
