McQuillen on Proteges

Despite his questionable taste in sources (see fourth paragraph), Oregonian classical music writer James McQuillen found much to admire in Chamber Music Northwest’s first concert in the Sunday afternoon Protege Project series. I concur. I’ll have more to say soon about that admirable series in this space. I’m happy to learn that the audience member who passed out in the midst of the last quartet is apparently all right, and that the episode didn’t reflect her aesthetic response to Bartok.

Your next opportunity to hear the Protege Project, including the Amphion Quartet, who gave such a, er, knockout performance last week, comes tomorrow, July 3. Unfortunately, it’s sold out. But tickets remain for the July 10 performance at Mississippi Studios.
